coming attractions 11062021Latest Update: This week we’ve news on Jameela Jamil being cast as the main villain in Marvel’s She-Hulk series, Harry Enfield starring in The Windsor’s stage play, Sky’s dark comedy The Baby, Mike Myers forthcoming Netflix series The Pentaverate where he’s taking on seven different roles, cast additions to Will Forte’s MacGruber series, the third season of Miracle Workers, and much, much more.

And Just Like That… – This Sex and the City sequel will see Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Willie Garson and Evan Handler reprise the characters they played in the original run.

Annie – NBC are to produce a live version of the musical, and it’s been announced that Taraji P. Henson will star as Miss Hannigan. “The Academy Award-nominated actress will play the orphanage’s cruel manager, Miss Hannigan, who hates all children but especially Annie. Henson will lead the musical opposite a soon-to-be-discovered star, as the network kicks off its nationwide casting search for the titular redheaded optimist”.

The Baby – Michelle De Swarte will star in Sky’s The Baby, a darkly comic horror series coming to Sky Atlantic. “The comedian and TV presenter recently made her acting debut as a series regular in Netflix series The Duchess. Now she is set to play the central role of Natasha in The Baby, with Amira Ghazalla and Amber Grappy also confirmed to line up alongside her in the show. The debut series of screenwriter Siân Robins-Grace, who has previously written for Sex Education, the eight episodes focus on a woman who must battle with her baby, with filming now underway. Sky confirms: “Michelle De Swarte plays Natasha, who is the friend who’s never made long-term plans. So when she is unexpectedly landed with a baby, her life of doing what she wants, when she wants, dramatically implodes. Controlling, manipulative and with violent powers, the baby twists Natasha’s life into a horror show. And as she discovers the true extent of its deadly nature, Natasha makes increasingly desperate attempts to get rid of the baby. But while she doesn’t want a baby, the baby wants her.” Amber Grappy, making her acting debut, will play Bobbi, Natasha’s younger sister, “a children’s magician and a ball of joy. Bobbi is everybody’s favourite. There is nothing Bobbi wants more than to be a parent, to give love and to receive it. She couldn’t be more different to Natasha if she tried. So when Bobbi sees her sister with the thing she wants most in the world – a baby – she is blinded by jealousy and unable to see the danger they are all in.” Meanwhile Amira Ghazalla will play Mrs Eaves, the 73 year-old “enigma” who has spent the last 50 years living out of her car. “She seems to be everywhere the Baby is. But who is she, and what does she want with Natasha’s new arrival?””.

Die Hart – Kevin Hart’s Quibi series returns for it’s second season on May 20th, though now it will air on Roku due to Quibi no longer existing. “Die Hart follows a fictionalized version of Hart, one who is tired of being the little Hart in the Cental Intelligence tagline “Saving the world takes a little Hart and a big Johnson.” Hart gets his wish when an action director casts him as his star, but first, he must enroll in an action movie school run by John Travolta.”.

Evil Genius – Russell Kane is working on a tv version of his popular podcast. “A 30-minute pilot of the ethics debate format, in which Kane and his guests weigh the achievements of famous figures against their worst behaviour, before concluding whether they are evil or a genius, has been shot by BBC Studios, British Comedy Guide can reveal”.

Free Guy – A trailer for this Ryan Reynolds film about a man who learns he’s in a video game can be found here:

Hacks – Jean Smart’s HBO Max series has been given a second season.

I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson – The second season will return on July 6th.

MacGruber – Sam Elliott, Laurence Fishburne, and Mickey Rourke are the latest additions to this action spoof from Will Forte. “The fantastically mustachioed Elliott will be playing the senior MacGruber, Perry, who has a fractured relationship with his bombastically idiotic son. Rourke, meanwhile, will play bad guy Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth, a mysterious figure from MacGruber’s past who threatens to destroy the world at large. Our favorite casting detail, though, is the addition of Fishburne as General Barrett Fasoose, who is not only a high-ranking military officer—he’s also the guy who married MacGruber’s ex-wife, Vicki (Wiig), in between the series and the movie”.

Miracle Workers: Oregon Trail – The third season premiers on July 13th. “The third season of the anthology comedy series brings cast members Daniel Radcliffe, Steve Buscemi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Karan Soni and Jon Bass to the American Old West. Set in 1844, “Miracle Workers: Oregon Trail” follows a small-town preacher (Radcliffe) who teams up with a wanted outlaw (Buscemi) and an adventurous prairie wife (Viswanathan) to lead a wagon train across the perilous Oregon Trail”. A trailer for it can be found here:

The Neighborhood – When it returns for its fourth season the new showrunner will be Meg DeLoatch, best known for Netflix’s Family Reunion sitcom.

Never Have I Ever – Will return on July 15th. “The first season ended with Vishwakumar kissing her former enemy (Ooooh a classic enemies to lovers twist!), which leads to her finally receiving the attention she desires from her crush Paxton. Then, she’s hit with the revelation that she might be moving to India. Drama! The second season will bring back cast members Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani, Jaren Lewison, Darren Barnet, Lee Rodriguez and Ramona Young, as well as season 2 newcomer Megan Suri. According to Deadline, Suri will play Aneesa, a new student whose “confidence and radiance” may pose a threat to Devi’s romantic pursuits”.

The Pentaverate – Is Mike Myers forthcoming Netflix comedy series where he’ll play seven roles, and the cast includes Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders and Lydia West. “Created by Myers and directed by Tim Kirkby (Fleabag), the series asks “What if a secret society of five men has been working to influence world events for the greater good since the Black Plague of 1347?” As the series begins, one unlikely Canadian journalist finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and just possibly save the world himself. Remember, the Pentaverate must never be exposed!”.

Ray & Gaynor – Rob Brydon and Ruth Jones are to star in this half hour comedy special which will air on BBC1. “Plot and further cast details of the 30-minute pilot have yet to emerge. But the comedy is being made by Tidy Productions, the company that Jones runs with her husband, writer-producer David Peet”.

Rob And Romesh Vs – An Olympics special is being produced which will be a double length episode.

She Hulk – Jameela Jamil has been cast as the lead villain in the series, Titania. “In the comics, Titania is a frequent enemy of She-Hulk’s, mostly because she’s mean and has super strength. She got her meanness and super strength from Doctor Doom under circumstances that aren’t worth getting into (Battleworld! The Beyonder!), but the important part is that she’s one of those B-tier or C-tier baddies who pops up whenever someone needs to smash-up Manhattan without ratcheting things up to a global or cosmic scale…The series will reportedly also feature Renée Elise Goldsberry, Ginger Gonzaga, Tim Roth (reprising his role from the Edward Norton Hulk movie, perhaps?), and Mark Ruffalo (reprising his role from every Marvel movie after the Edward Norton Hulk). For those who don’t know She-Hulk, she’s Bruce Banner’s cousin and she gets a variation of his Hulk powers after a blood transfusion. Rather than becoming a monster, though, she just gets super buff and turns green, regaining the mental faculties that she employs in her daily life as a lawyer”.

Somebody Somewhere – This HBO comedy has begun production and added Jeff Hiller, Mary Catherine Garrison, Danny McCarthy, Mike Hagerty, Murray Hill and Jon Hudson Odom to the cast. “The series stars Bridget Everett as Sam, a Kansan struggling to fit her hometown mold and finds solace in singing, which leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders”.

Sorry, I Didn’t Know – This Itv panel show will return for five more episodes, starting in October 2021, with Jimmy Akingbola hosting while Chizzy Akudolu and Judi Love return as captains.

Ted – A live action tv series based on the talking bear is in the works, Mark Wahlberg almost certainly won’t be returing but Seth MacFarlane is in negotiations and may voice the character again.

Velma – HBO have revealed a few more bits on info about this series about the Scooby Doo character, including the fact that Scooby Doo won’t feature in it. “The most immediately grabbing news, of course, was—per The Mary Sue—that the show’s version of Velma will be of East Asian descent, matching Kaling’s own ethnicity. (Needless to say, the parts of the internet who always get mad about changes like this have now achieved their usual volcano of intolerance.) But Kaling’s changes to the Velma formula also have a much more interesting shift to them, as Tom Ascheim, president of Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics, revealed during a presentation at the The TV Kids Summer Festival: The series is set to feature “no dog,” and “no van.””.

The Windsors – Is set to return in stage play form, at least if the third wave doesn’t end up closing theatres again. Harry Enfield is due to star, and the script was completed before the show’s co-writer Bert Jeffrie tragically died in September. “Producers Runaway Entertainment say: “Much of the cast of the television series will reprise their roles in the stage production with Harry Enfield playing Prince Charles, so we have the Prince of Wales at the Prince of Wales. The plot is described as follows: “Like all good soap operas, this is the story of intergenerational conflict, with Wills challenging his father for the crown and Camilla determined to see him off and rule the land with an iron fist. Wills needs Harry and Meghan’s help if he’s ever going to triumph – but will they come back from California and their authentic life with their rescue chickens? And how will Beatrice and Eugenie ever clear their father, Prince Andrew’s name?””

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist – This musical dramedy with Jane Levy has been cancelled, but the show’s creator hopes to find a new home for it.
