coming attractions 04062021Latest Update: This week we’ve news on Matt Thompson’s America The Motion Picture, the return of Archer and What We Do In The Shadows, Taika Waititi’s Reservation Dogs, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry starring in a new version of The Canterville Ghost, Helen Mirren narrated an unscripted comedy, Atypical’s fourth and final season, and much much more.

America The Motion Picture – A trailer for this forthcoming film directed by Matt Thompson (Archer, Frisky Dingo) is online, with The AV Club describing it as “an over-the-top Adult Swim-y take on American history, with Channing Tatum playing a foul-mouthed chainsaw-swinging version of George Washington, Andy Samberg as a vampire-like Benedict Arnold, and Olivia Munn as a Tony Stark-esque super scientist Thomas Edison”. Archer – FX have announced on social media that season 12 premieres on August 25 on FXX, and the next day on FX on Hulu, and due to a new spy conglomerate the agency may be in danger. FX have also reported that Jessica Walter had finished recording all her lines for the series, and so will be in it throughout.

Atypical – The fourth and final season drops on Netflix on July 9th. “In Season 4, Sam pursues a nearly impossible goal, while his mother Elsa (Leigh), father Doug (Rapaport) and sister Casey (Lundy-Paine) each face a challenge they never expected”. More info and some images are here:

The Canterville Ghost – A new animated version of Oscar Wilde’s much loved short story is in the works, and will include the voices of Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie. “Fry is set to voice Sir Simon De Canterville, the eponymous ghost who haunts an English mansion moved into by an American family, while IMDb credits Laurie as The Grim Reaper. The full cast has yet to be confirmed but Miranda Hart, Toby Jones, Imelda Staunton and Freddie Highmore have all previously been attached”.

Dave – A number of short online series are to be launched by the UK channel, involving various comedians including Olga Koch, Sunil Patel and Amelia Dimoldenberg.

iCarly – Premiers on June 17th. “Picking up 10 years after the classic Nickelodeon show ended, the new “iCarly” follows original influencer Carly Shay and her friends navigating work, love and family. In the trailer, the characters go on dates, joke around in the revamped loft and restart their popular web series, this time shot on a PearPhone. Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress reprise their original roles as Carly Shay, Spencer Shay and Freddie Benson, starring alongside newcomers Laci Mosley, who plays Carly’s roommate and best friend Harper, and Jaidyn Triplett, who plays Freddie’s snarky and social media-savvy stepdaughter Millicent”. Never Mind The Buzzcocks – After a successful pilot this is set to return but will be on Sky rather than the BBC.

Reservation Dogs – will premiere Aug. 9 on FX on Hulu. It’s “a new comedy from co-creators Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, (and) will debut its first two of eight episodes. Set in rural Oklahoma, the series follows four indigenous teens who steal, rob and save in order to get to California”.

The Resort – Eight episodes of this dark comedy have been ordered by Peacock which has been described as “A multi-generational exploration of love, marriage, and family vacations, set amidst one of the Mayan Riviera’s most bizarre unsolved mysteries. The series is written by Andy Siara, with Sam Esmail signed on as executive director. “Andy and Esmail Corp have a distinct point of view exploring off-kilter, genre-bending storytelling that is infused with humanity and compelling characters,” says Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBC Universal Television and Streaming. “The Resort has everything viewers are looking for in their next escape drama – thrill, mystery, love and a tropical backdrop.”

Senior Year – Alicia Silverstone has joined the case of this school set comedy starring Rebel Wilson. “Senior Year follows a cheerleader, played by Wilson, who wakes up after a 20-year coma and decides to return to high school to try to regain her status and claim the prom queen crown that eluded her. Other cast members include Justin Hartley (This Is Us), Angourie Rice (Mare Of Easttown), Sam Richardson (Veep), Zoë Chao (Love Life), Mary Holland (Happiest Season), and Chris Parnell. Alex Hardcastle, who’s directed episodes of series such as Parks And Recreation, New Girl, and Grace & Frankie, will direct the film, with Todd Garner, Tim Bourne, Wilson, and Chris Bender on as producers”.

Starstruck – Rose Matafeo’s great sitcom will premier in the US on HBO Max on June 10th.

Value For Funny – Jimmy Carr is hosting this pilot where members of the public will tell their best true life stories.

Wedding Crashers – Though by no means definite it appears a sequel is in the works, “with Dobkin returning to direct and original stars Wilson and Vaughn (plus Isla Fisher and Rachel McAdams) all set to return”, and it is being made by HBO Max, but that’s about all we know right now.

What We Do In The Shadows – will return on Sept. 2 at 10 p.m. on FXX – where “housemates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo (Matt Berry) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) are in a panic after learning Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) is a vampire killer”.

When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren – Is an unscripted ABC comedy, where Mirren “narrates a cheeky look at animals and the wild. The show is based on a BBC Studios format that “features comedians putting words into the mouths of beautiful beasts, teeny-tiny frogs, beatboxing badgers and more in captivating footage from all over the world,” the network said”.
