The Addams Family – May be rebooted as a tv series, though these are early days so it’s by no means definite. “Variety has confirmed with sources that MGM Television is developing a new series about the spooktacular family. “Into the Badlands” creators Alfred Gough and Milles Millar are attached to write the new series, while Tim Burton is in negotiations to direct and executive produce. Gough and Millar would also serve as executive producers and showrunners.” https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/addams-family-tv-reboot-tim-burton-miles-millar-alfred-gough-1234813450/

American Housewife – A trailer for the fifth season which starts on October 28th is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU3cPRWRqT8&feature=emb_logo

Archer – Has been renewed for a twelfth season according to an announcement on their Facebook page.

Bamous – The BBC are making a new pilot with Dane Baptiste. “Bamous centres around the mythical NASBLAQ – a stock index for which determines which “diverse talent” are allowed up and down the ladder of fame and success at any one time. The producers explain: “In this satirical new pilot for BBC Three, Dane and his assembled cast will try and figure out how the NASBLAQ works and how black talent can get to the top of it with an avalanche of comedy sketches, stunts, funny archive, interviews, social campaigns and much more, promising to reflect Britain at its most true, most provocative and most current.” Dane Baptiste comments: “I’m so incredibly proud of this commission. Bamous is the show I’ve always wanted to make, where I can explore and celebrate Blackness, Britishness and how both of those elements combined can create a distinct and hilarious piece of work – with a style unlike anything on the planet right now. Black excellence at its most outstanding.” https://www.comedy.co.uk/online/news/5997/dane-baptiste-hosts-bamous/

The Curse – Is a 1980’s set crime comedy from the People Just Do Nothing team. “The Curse is set in the 1980s and based on a true story about a gang involved in a robbery who get more than they bargain for once they have the loot. Written by and starring Kurupt FM’s Steve Stamp, Allan Mustafa and Hugo Chegwin, the heist caper co-stars Tom Davis and is directed by his regular collaborator James De Frond (King Gary, Murder In Successville). The team are also currently developing a gym-based sitcom, Peacock, for the BBC, starring Thomas Gray. Meanwhile, the People Just Do Nothing movie, Big In Japan, is set for a February release in cinemas.” https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/news/5999/the-curse-channel-4-series/

The Flight Attendant – This HBO Max comedy drama starring The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco is based on Chris Bohjalian’s novel, and stars the actor “As an airline employee who, after a fling with a hunky passenger, finds herself at the center of a murder investigation.” It begins on November 26th, and a trailer for it can be found here. https://news.avclub.com/kaley-cuoco-wakes-up-next-to-a-corpse-in-hbo-maxs-the-f-1845426478

Miracle Workers – Has been renewed for a third season, though on the downside it’s without series creator Simon Rich. “Set in the 1844, the new season will follow an idealistic small-town preacher (Radcliffe) who teams up with a wanted outlaw (Buscemi) and a liberated prairie wife (Viswanathan) to lead a wagon train west on the Oregon Trail across an American landscape which, much like today, is fraught with both promise and peril. Getting to tell an entirely new story with this ludicrously talented cast each season is a dream come true,” said (new showrunners) Mirk and Padnick. “We could not be happier that TBS has given us the reins on this unique and special show.” https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/miracle-workers-renewed-season-3-tbs-1234813375/

Nate’s – Is a new sitcom that’s in the works from A Black Lady Sketch Show writer Akilah Green. “Nate’s is a half-hour comedy that revolves around Nate’s, a black-owned, Washington, D.C. dive bar that has been serving drinks for the last 10 presidential administrations. This beloved cultural institution serves as a sanctuary for the congressional staffers, Metro workers, Beltway socialites, and other regulars who frequent it. From the sounds of it the prospective series draws from Green’s personal experiences, given that she is a lawyer-turned-TV writer who spent several years working as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. before switching careers.” https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/abc-black-owned-washington-dc-bar-comedy-black-lady-sketch-show-writer-development-1234807542/

Never Have I Ever – Mindy Kaling’s new comedy has been given a second season. “The series centers around Devi, a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenage girl. Ramakrishnan’s character is an overachieving high school sophomore who has a short fuse that gets her into difficult situations. In addition to the relatable high school drama about fitting in, searching for love and trying to figure out who you are, Devi is also dealing with the sudden death of her father.” https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/never-have-i-ever-season-2-production-restart-1234813162/

Quibi – To the shock of absolutely nobody, this streaming platform is closing down after just six months. Whether or not the shows it had commissioned (which included more Reno 911!) will be picked up another network is not yet known. https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/quibi-confirms-shutdown-jeffrey-katzenberg-meg-whitman-1234812643/

Smokey and The Bandit – Might be made in to a television series, with it being written by Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green and Brian Sides. “Smokey and the Bandit” is an epic adventure of family, small-town crime, unlikely heroes, legend and legacy. Inspired by the genre of 70s and 80s drive-in double-features, the series will “explore the crossroads where humble realities meet those larger-than-life, all in a blast of tailpipe exhaust.” https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/smokey-and-the-bandit-series-seth-macfarlane-ucp-1234812002/

Spitting Image – A Trump based episode of the series is to air on ITV on October 31st, presumably in the hope it’ll get people to sign up for Britbox to see the rest. https://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2020/10/21/47152/spitting_image_comes_to_broadcast_tv

Staged – David Tennant and Michael Sheen’s zoom based comedy will return for a second series. “The BBC says: “The new series sees the pair attempt to navigate their ‘new normal’ at home with their increasingly exasperated families whilst simultaneously trying to tackle the world of ‘virtual Hollywood’ and their ever more fragile egos.” It’s been confirmed that Georgia Tennant, Anna Lundberg, Lucy Eaton, Nina Sosanya and Simon Evans, who all appeared in the first series, will be present for the new episodes too. Series 2 sees Ben Schwartz, who is best known for playing Jean-Ralphio Saperstein in hit US sitcom Parks And Recreation, joining the cast. He plays Tom, the assistant to Michael and David’s American agent.” https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/news/6006/staged-series-2/

Stath Lets Flats – Will be coming back for a third series. “Demetriou said: ‘This is lovely. I love Channel 4. Thanks so much for having us back for a series 3. Sorry the title is still hard to say. Love Jamie Demetriou from Stalph Les Flav.’” https://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2020/10/22/47164/third_series_for_stath_lets_flats

Graeme ‘Grado’ Stevely and Joy McAvoy, who play young couple Alan and Michelle, will not feature in the Christmas special but will be back for the fifth series, which is due to be filmed and shown next year.” https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/news/6008/two-doors-down-christmas-special/
