Black, British And Funny – Mo Milligan is making a documentary as part of a strand celebrating Black History Month. “Channel 4 says: “Mo Gilligan wants to celebrate the Black comedians who paved the way for artists like him and shine a light on the new wave of acts coming.” Black, British And Funny will look at the careers of the UK’s pioneering black comedians and explore why so few black comedians have found mainstream success. The synopsis for the programme says: “If you were to ask the average British person on the street to name five well-known Black British comedians, they would struggle to give you an answer. But last year a new stand-up burst onto the scene. He is Black and he is British… enter Mo Gilligan. Mo’s first big break came from the Black British comedy circuit; a thriving yet little known about stand-up scene which has been packing out theatres up and down the country for the last 30 years. Now Mo wants to celebrate the icons who paved the way for artists like him and shine a light on the new wave of acts coming through. He’ll look back at the history of the Black comedy circuit, asking why this scene has remained hidden in plain sight and, importantly, question why he is one of the few comedians from the scene who have crossed over and ‘made it’, enjoying mainstream success.” https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/news/5902/black-british-and-funny/

The move comes amid a significant push into adult animation ViacomCBS’ entertainment and youth group, which comprises most of the company’s cable brands and is headed by Chris McCarthy. The unit also on Wednesday revealed that Grant Gish, a veteran of Marvel Studios and Fox Animation, would join as head of adult animation. The “Ren & Stimpy” revival follows orders for new versions of other classic animated comedies from the erstwhile Viacom’s cable library, including Mike Judge’s “Beavis and Butt-Head”; Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Bill Lawrence’s “Clone High”; and “Jodie,” based on the former MTV series “Daria.”” https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/ren-stimpy-revival-set-at-comedy-central-adult-animation-veteran-grant-gish-joins-viacomcbs-1234726073/

South Park – File under “Things that will probably not happen”, but it’s possible that a new movie might be made according to the NME “Grant Gish, ViacomCBS Entertainment and Youth Group’s new senior vice president of adult animation, has expressed an interest in making more movies and specials with creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. “As long as you’re doing something new, and that could be anything from a new style to a new tone to a new voice coming from a specific writer, I think it can work…An animation audience is looking for something unique. That’s what The Simpsons and South Park have famously done. So I want to try a little bit of everything, even though a lot of it will be targeted to the tried and true with brands people know.” https://www.nme.com/news/tv/south-park-could-be-set-to-be-rebooted-for-a-franchise-of-new-movies-2722563

Who’s The Boss? – Is to make a comeback for some bizarre reason, but sadly won’t be called “Who’s 2 Boss”. Original stars Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano are returning, though why the latter is confuses as she’s a superb actor who deserves much better fare than this. Anyhow, Variety reported “The new show will take place 30 years after the events of the original series and be centered around former major-league baseball player and retired housekeeper Tony Micelli (Danza) and his relationship with his daughter Samantha Micelli (Milano), who is now a single mother and living in the house in which the original series was set.Original cast members Judith Light and Danny Pintauro not currently involved with the series but could become so if the creators can think of a creative way to work their characters into the show.” https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/whos-the-boss-sequel-series-1234725581/
