Coming Attractions – The Latest Tv Comedy News

coming attractions 05062020Latest Update: This week we’ve news about the new Alan Partridge podcast, Kate & Koji and Two Doors Down being renewed, a start date and some info on Jason Sudekis’s new sitcom Ted Lasso, Netflix being shitty and cancelling Astronomy Club The Sketch Show, and more.

Alan Partridge: From The Oasthouse – The long awaited podcast from Steve Coogan’s Alan Partridge is to be released on September 3rd, but you can listen to the first episode now if you’re an Audible subscriber. According to the Radio Times “For the first time, this famously private man welcomes us into his home and bears all through a fascinating series of conversations and richly sound-designed audio vignettes.” It goes on to say, “Over the course of 18 generously-lengthed episodes, Partridge reveals a wiser, more reflective Alan. From The Oasthouse demonstrates a maturity and insight that will be instantly recognisable to his fans, even if it’s not yet acknowledged by some of his more storied peers. In keeping with podcasting’s rich heritage, each episode is recorded at home in Alan’s Oasthouse (his shed), after which audio is sent directly to Audible to ensure it meets the technical specifications laid down in his contract.”

Astronomy Club The Sketch Show – This all black sketch show has been cancelled by Netflix, whose timing is fucking appalling.

Bafta Awards – The nominations for the Bafta’s have been announced and among the nominees are Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Gus Khan, Sarah Kendall, Sian Clifford and Jamie Demetriou, and the full list can be found here:

The Cummings Files: Confidential Thoughts, Ideas, Actions by Dominic Cummings – A book rather than a tv series but it’s a bloody slow news week, and it is at least being written by much loved sitcom scribe Arthur Mathews, with this spoof telling “The full story of those trips to Durham, his plans for a biopic of Otto Von Bismarck starring Sanjeev Bhaskar, what happens when you hit Michael Gove over the head with a pencil; his close relationship with the Prime Minister’. It is due to be released in October by Faber. According to its blurb: ‘Dominic Cummings has a lively mind. He is constantly thinking; planning; coming up with big ideas. During a time of momentous events in Britain (Brexit, a general election, the Covid 19 pandemic) the government’s chief adviser has been writing down his thoughts – in diaries, blog posts, Post-it notes and any scrap of paper he can find.”

Have I Got News For You – Will be returning to it’s normal studio based format in October apparently, though other UK shows are to begin shooting again much sooner.

Kate & Koji – This very average ITV sitcom has been given a second series.

Mental – This French comedy drama about “Sheila, a 20-something intern in psychiatry who discovers the burlesque world” may well be getting a US remake according to Variety.

Ted Lasso – With a vaguely similar premise to the BBC’s The First Team, this Apple TV + sitcom sees former Saturday Night Live regular Jason Sudeikis “play a small-time college football coach hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience in the sport”, with the show set to begin on August 14th.

Two Doors Down – Is to return for fifth series.
