Do You Want To See A Dead Body? Season 1 Episode 1
A Youtube Red show from 2017 that’s sadly now been cancelled, it’s a real shame it’s no longer on our screens as it’s a great idea that is played with in very funny ways. In this first episode Parks and Recreation’s Adam Scott accidentally hits Childrens Hospital star Rob Heubel with his car, and out of guilt promises to spend the day with him as he might be concussed. That leads Heubel to suggest they go and see a dead body, hence the title of the show, and after briefly stealing a bunch of pills from a pharmacist they head out in to the woods and find a parachutist hanging from a tree and it makes Scott reevaluate his life. Which yes, is pretty bizarre and unconventional, but that’s part of the joy of the show, and the second part of the episode is similarly unpredictable as it sees Rob giving Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Terry Crews a lift to the airport but before dropping him there suggests he might want to see a deceased cadaver. And of course it’s not that simple as Terry and Rob end up going on a double date, and after Terry hits it off with his paramour Rob becomes rather jealous indeed. It’s a show which doesn’t just rely on it’s silly set up’s either, it’s backed with great lines (with Terry Crews comment about his trip to an Expendables convention – “I’m one of the seventeen most popular speakers” – making me laugh hard) and unusual background details too, like the fact that Rob lives in a strange gothic mansion with Morgan Freeman as his roommate. Unfortunately only the first episode is currently available to watch free on youtube, but hopefully the others will be at a later date.

Taskmaster Season 9 Episode 10
When the fifth series of Taskmaster aired I was all kinds of in love with it, as Aisling Bea, Bob Mortimer, Mark Watson, Nish Kumar and Sally Phillips made for the show’s best contestants yet, and okay, Mark Watson was rather weak but considering how superb it was in general I didn’t feel the urge to complain. But four series on and I’m feeling a little exhausted by the show, partially due to the rate Dave rattle them out at, with twenty episodes a year feeling like far too many, but also due to the uneven quality in contestants and that was once again the case with the ninth series. Rose, Ed and Katy were all kinds of great but Jo squandered her promise by not giving a toss way too often, and I’ve genuine concerns for David Baddiel as he seems so utterly inept, which may sound harsh but this is a man who doesn’t know where his hip is after all. Too many of the tasks were bland as well, I really wish they’d re-use some older ones rather than coming out with some of the shite physical tasks that they have used this year, with the “Make a cup of tea only using difficult items” being a series low, and the prize task rarely raises a smile too. There’s lots of rumours circulating that the show might be moving to another channel and if that is the case I really hope that they cut down the number of episodes to maybe six or eight per season, and have more creative tasks again rather than ones which just highlight how rubbish those taking part are at throwing or shoving something.

The Good Place Season 4 Episode 7
In the comments sections to other reviews of The Good Place I keep on seeing people mention how they like the show but they just don’t find it funny, and that’s something I’ll never understand. Okay, it doesn’t have the gag rate of say, classic era The Simpsons at it’s prime, but it’s still got a great selection of very funny lines and moments in each episode. Take this most recent one for instance, which had a hilarious dig at both Facebook and America, Tahani’s gag at the expense of West Brompton was a great one (though admittedly you’d probably need to have been to the place to find it really amusing), while visually seeing Janet go up in smoke was a very funny moment. But also generating much laughter was Eleanor’s reaction to Tahani’s suggestion that Jason might be a demon after his “Prevent / Defence” speech, her laugh after she and Michael pretend they’re in the bad place to Brent and Chidi, and who wouldn’t find the pet names Chidi and Simone have for each other – Ducky and Muffin – both amusing and endearing? Oh yeah, and then of course there’s Jason’s comment about eating a pure Reese’s Pieces, Brent and Chidi ending up both hanging on to dear life over the hell pit, Michael’s bad human magic, Janet’s comment about violently eating her Janet Babies, and, well, I could name a whole bunch of other examples but I’m pretty sure I’ve made my point that this is a very funny show and those who say it isn’t should be shot dead. Or argued with in a polite manner at the very least.

A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (2019)
Aardman have been creating tv series and films packed with innocent joy for a long time now and with this they’ve hit another home run. An all but dialogue free movie with just the odd weird noise being emitted, this is a very sweet and shockingly fun kids film where an alien lands on Earth, becomes friends with Shaun, and because there’s lots of rumours about UFO’s in the area the farmer builds a big attraction to cash in on this. There’s lots of slapstick, daftness and it’s a pretty charming affair, not quite up there with the very best children’s films (A Town Called Panic, Digby The Biggest Dog In The World) but it’s definitely something that will make you and any small human beings you know laugh a great deal, while warming the cockles of your heart too, and you can’t ask for much more from cinema than that.

Video Of The Week
Andrew Bird’s most recent full length show can be watched on youtube completely for free, and if that’s not a bargain I don’t know what is.

Link Of The Week
That Last Days Of Michael Legge is a new Radio 4 show which showcases stand up from “the very angry Lewisham resident”, who I loved when I saw him perform his latest show recently, and so everyone should definitely listen to this.
